Nacka municipality
Nacka municipality combines benefit with pleasure in Kyrkviken in Järlasjön.
THE CUSTOMER'S CHALLENGE
Poorly treated stormwater
Järlasjön is Nacka’s largest lake and very important for outdoor life in the municipality. However, despite reduced emissions from nearby industries and households, the water quality of the lake is threatened by poorly treated stormwater. In 2016, Nacka Municipality decided to improve water quality in Kyrkviken, a bathing area in Järlasjön, by building a stormwater treatment plant.
OUR SOLUTION
Screen pools with Eco-bridges for different purposes
We at Tecomatic are pleased to have contributed to this important community project consisting of a stormwater treatment plant and associated piers and decks. All rainwater and meltwater from the surrounding area flows here and undergoes five stages of treatment before being released into the lake. Together with Tecomatic’s screen walls and measures to reduce phosphorus and eutrophication in Järlasjön, we get clean and clear bathing water with good visibility. The tasteful wooden decks are not only a nice place to visit, they also have the function of hiding the stormwater treatment plant that has been placed along the shore of the Bay of Biscay.
AWARD-WINNING SOLUTION
The wooden bridges are a clear favorite
In June 2023, the piers in Kyrkviken won the “City Building Award 2022” by a wide margin. Almost half of those who voted had the large wooden bridges as their favorite.
“Kyrkviken is a fantastic example of how new space for recreation and socializing is combined with essential functions such as stormwater treatment.”
