Tecomatic’s silt curtain prevents the spread of turbidity in Sweden’s largest dredging project

In the Luleå archipelago, the Malmporten project is currently underway, Sweden’s largest dredging project in modern times. The project is being carried out to adapt the fairway for the largest ships in the Baltic Sea and to build a new deepwater port.

The Swedish Maritime Administration expects the volume of goods to and from Luleå to more than double in the coming years. The Malmporten project will enable more efficient transportation and lower emissions, with one boatload being able to replace three boatloads in today’s measurements.

Tecomatic’s solution provides a fast and efficient installation at the workplace

Tecomatic has delivered 1600 meters of silt curtains in the first phase to prevent turbidity and contaminated masses from spreading to surrounding waters during dredging work. In total, around 20 million cubic meters will be dredged. To ensure that the dredging can proceed according to plan, the order also includes a silt curtain that is kept on site as a spare and can be easily installed if there are problems with the one installed in the water.

Tecomatic’s proprietary solution with floating pipes, which are refined in the production facility in Kalmar, are fully assembled with silt curtains in 200 meter lengths. The reason for the choice is the quality, which is crucial as a possible stop can cost extreme sums, as well as the simplicity of replacing the silt curtain.
