Framework agreement for stormwater ponds in Stockholm City and Huddinge.
We are pleased to announce that we have been entrusted by Stockholm Vatten och Avfall to manage the maintenance of a number of stormwater ponds in both Stockholm City and Huddinge over the next eight years. The assignment forms part of a long-term agreement procured in accordance with ABT 06, under which we, together with an additional contractor, are responsible for the maintenance of the ponds.
The work includes:
- Extensive dredging of stormwater facilities
- Transportation and removal of sediment
- Repair of baffle walls
- Any necessary repair of the pond bottom
We work with suction dredging – a gentle method in which we survey and follow the topography of the pond bottom to avoid damage. The sediment is dewatered on-site in geotubes to prevent any impact on the water level.
Tecomatic was selected thanks to our comprehensive capabilities—from surveying and site establishment to execution, demobilization, and final reporting. When needed, we also manage all aspects related to the dredging process. In addition, we are certified according to ISO 9001 and comply with the requirements of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. We actively work to reduce the climate footprint of our projects, for example through an electrified fleet, and we appreciate that these values were taken into account in the supplier selection.
We are very grateful for the trust placed in us and for the opportunity to help keep Stockholm’s stormwater ponds in the best possible condition – for functionality, water quality, and the environment.
Stormwater ponds and their function
Stormwater ponds play a central role in delaying and treating water before it reaches sewers, rivers, and lakes. To maintain their capacity and treatment performance, regular maintenance and sediment removal are required. Tecomatic uses gentle methods that ensure both functionality and water quality over time. Fossil-free operation and ISO certification
Tecomatic works with an electrified machine fleet and strives to always minimize our climate footprint. We are certified according to ISO 9001 and meet the requirements of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, which ensures quality, structure and environmental consideration in all projects. This contributes to sustainable ways of working in all parts of the organisation.
Assignments in Stockholm and Huddinge
Stockholm City and Huddinge have a large number of stormwater ponds that require continuous maintenance. Through the framework agreement, the ponds’ function, flow capacity, and treatment performance are ensured, as well as compliance with high environmental and operational standards. We carry out—and have carried out—numerous assignments across Stockholm, including erosion control at Slussen and the quay balconies throughout the city.
Over time, the pond fills with sediment, which reduces its volume and shortens the water retention time. This leads to decreased treatment performance and increases the risk of eutrophication, odour issues, flooding, and clogged pump stations. Through regular maintenance, inspections, and sediment removal, the pond’s function and safety can be maintained.
There is no general interval; the need is determined by how heavily the pond is loaded, how it is designed, and the local requirements that apply. The process often begins with a sediment assessment, in which the volume and characteristics of the sediment are mapped to determine when and how a removal should be carried out.
The cost mainly depends on the size of the pond, the amount and type of sediment, the accessibility of the site, and the requirements for sampling, classification, dewatering, and handling of the material. We recommend starting with a sediment assessment to gain a clear overview of how much sediment has accumulated and where.
