Reinforced construction of quay with concrete mattress and marine casting.

The client’s challenge

Extensive renovation of Kungsbrokajen

The Kungsbrokajen in Karlskrona faced major challenges and was in such poor condition that it was in danger of collapsing into the water. The underwater structure had been poorly maintained for a long time and lacked the necessary load-bearing capacity to be safe.

The worn-out structure required extensive renovation to ensure long-term stability and durability. The challenge was to find an innovative approach that could combine high quality with minimal environmental impact and cost-effectiveness.

Our solution

Renovate instead of building a new quay

Tecomatic took on the project with a focus on preserving and reinforcing the existing structure. By combining several technological steps, we were able to achieve the goal in a cost-effective and environmentally conscious way:

  • Protection of the aquatic environment: Installation of a silt curtain to minimize turbidity and suction dredging to prepare the bottom.
  • Erosion protection: Placement of a concrete mattress in a residual form to protect the bottom against erosion.
  • Reinforcement of the quay structure: marine casting with foam concrete to increase the stability and lifetime of the quay.

“A cost effective solution and a good cooperation for future works. I can highly recommend Tecomatic.”
